California

I’ve never been, but the tea towel is lovely.

Lady Alone Traveler stays closer to home in 2014.

The only place I’ve been to in California is San Diego, the first time to Top Gun back in the day, and later to doings out on North Island, and one time into San Diego to drive a rental over the mountains into the Imperial Valley.

Reading Dana’s Two Years Before the Mast some years back, I learned from his description of two years in California gathering furs for a merchant that the place is a desert. Pretty much all of it. That is a reality we have lost in our time of glitz and water imported from hundreds of miles away. One day it will be a desert again.

    • Thoughtful comments, Reggie, as always.

It’s also interesting that you’ve read Dana’s book and it left an impression on you. It was once more widely read and has now fallen off into the sea, like some say will one day happen to California.

      Cheers!

I have always wanted to go to San Diego, my childhood favorite animal was the koala and that was the only zoo I knew about that had them. It’s on my bucket list to see and possibly hold one someday. So, Lady Alone Traveler, you don’t have to travel alone…..just sayin’!
